Which Medicare Advantage Plan is Best?
Evaluate plans based on your specific healthcare needs (i.e., doctor, specialist(s), prescriptions, out-of-pocket costs, etc.), not simply the monthly premium or the insurer. To do this you'll need to go through plans to find the benefits and costs that align with your needs. For help, contact a Medicare Adviser, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
One of the most important benefits offered by Medicare Advantage is the Maximum Out-Of-Pocket spending limit, or MOOP. For 2019, MOOP is set at $6,700. So, if your in-network eligible medical cost-sharing reaches $6,700, the plan must pick up all additional cost sharing for the year.
Plans can use the mandatory MOOP, set by CMS, or offer a lower MOOP, down to $3,401. So, if your out-of-pocket costs are typically high, look for a Sheridan County plan that offers a lower MOOP, as this may save you a substantial amount of money, even if you pay $200 or more per month for the plan's premium.
WARNING: If you see a doctor or specialist outside of the plan's network, you will fall under the guidelines of a combined MOOP (e.g., in-network and out of network), which can be up to $10,000.
If you are in a 2019 Medicare Advantage plan, the plan can raise your maximum out-of-pocket spending limit (MOOP) in 2019, however, your covered healthcare expenses cannot exceed $6,700 for in-network cost-sharing.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to read your Annual Notice of Change Letter to see if your MOOP increased. This information will help you determine how much you need to budget in 2019 for in-network Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B charges.
