Medicare Supplemental Plan F is Going Away in 2020
In 2020 you will no longer be able to purchase a Medicare Supplement Plan F in Oregon. However, if you get a Plan F policy in Oregon now you will be able to keep it. These highly valuable supplemental plans are being phased out as a cost cutting measure for the government. The theory is that seniors will stop seeing their doctor if they have to pay out-of-pocket.
Join a Oregon Medicare Part D Plan for Rx Coverage
A supplement does not pay for your prescriptions. By law, supplemental insurance must cover Original Medicare covers, and nothing more. Foreign travel coverage is the only exception. To get help with your prescriptions, you'll need to join a Oregon Medicare Part D plan.
Oregon has Standardized Medicare Supplements
By law, all Medicare Supplements sold in the state of Oregon are standardized. This means that every policy must be clearly identified as Medicare Supplement Insurance and it must offer the exact coverage allowed. This allows all plans to compete on price (premium).
Each lettered plan offers the basic coverage of Plan A. Plans B through N offer different levels of gap coverage, including some with annual out-of-pocket limits. This gives people significant range of choice based on the amount of insurance needed.
Carriers are free to market the the policies they want, with these simple limitations:
- Carriers are not required to offer every plan
- Plan A is mandatory
- Plan C or F must be offered
