Is Medicare Supplement Plan F Going Away in Tennessee?
The highly prized Medigap Plan F is about to be a thing of the past. The government is forcing it out as a way to cut costs. The good news is that you can keep it if you have it. Will it actually cut Medicare cost in Tennessee? It's anyone's guess, but the theory is that seniors will use their doctor less often if they have to pay out-of-pocket.
in Tennessee Medicare Supplements Do Not Cover Prescriptions
In years past supplemental plans were allowed to offer prescription coverage. Not anymore. Today, supplements must be in lock-step with Original Medicare. If Medicare doesn't cover it, then supplemental insurance can't cover the gap. That means the only way to get help with prescriptions is through a Tennessee Medicare Part D plan.
Tennessee Medicare Supplements are Regulated by Law
Tennessee insurance carriers are required to follow both state and federal laws regulating Medicare Supplements. Plans are standardized and must provide the exact coverage mandated. The only variance is the premium and how the premium is calculated.
Each lettered plan offers the basic coverage of Plan A. Plans B through N offer different levels of gap coverage, including some with annual out-of-pocket limits. This gives people significant range of choice based on the amount of insurance needed.
Carriers are free to market the the policies they want, with these simple limitations:
- Carriers are not required to offer every plan
- Plan A is mandatory
- Plan C or F must be offered
