Medicare Hospital Insurance (Part A) is hospital insurance. It covers inpatient care in hospitals, critical access hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. It also covers hospice care and some home health care. Medicare also helps cover a wide variety of other services, including preventive services, X-rays and transplants.
Medicare Medical Insurance (Part B) is medical insurance. It covers doctors’ services, outpatient hospital care, and some other medical services that Part A does not cover, such as therapy and home health care. Participants pay a Part B monthly premium. The standard monthly Part B premium is $104.90 in 2013.
